Curriculum Vitae

I was born in Baia Mare on 31 July 1931. I attended primary and secondary school in my hometown, then I graduated from the pedagogy class of the College of Fine Arts in Cluj-Napoca, under Sándor Mohy’s guidance, in 1955. My first participation in an exhibition took place in 1953, when, as a student of sculpture, my submitted landscape was exhibited at the Regional Exhibition from Baia Mare. In 1956 I became member of the Romanian Artists’ Association; from that time until 1990 I was an art teacher. Besides painting, I was concerned about education theory, art pedagogy, whether the eternal issue of art could be taught. In my private school of painting and for 25 years in the Syndicate Culture House from Baia Mare I was guiding amateur artists and the youth preparing for architecture and fine arts university. I take photos on a regular basis so that I can record the highly inspiring landscapes, people and monuments of the region. The fact that I was born in Baia Mare decisively determines my artistic creed, because by getting to know the art of my great predecessors, I consciously assume my belonging to Baia Mare and strive to utilize its spirituality and creative methods, adapting them to the requirements of the modern age and to enrich them with the recent results in painting. To this end, as the artistic director of the Baia Mare Landscape Painting Colony, established in 1996, I strive to pass on this common cultural treasure by trying to recruit as many followers as possible from my fellow artists. Since 1956, I have regularly participated in exhibitions in the country and abroad organized by the Baia Mare Branch of the Romanian Artists’ Association, as well as in several national and international solo and group exhibitions. My artworks can be found in several public and private collections in the country and abroad.
