Selection from the collections of the Sapientia Foundation and the Transylvanian Art Centre Association | Exhibition at the Mures County Museum.
The Mures County Museum and the Transylvanian Art Centre are pleased to invite you to the opening of the exhibition "Parallel Centers: Cluj and Târgu Mureș (1920-1990)". The event will take place on Friday, May 13th 2022, at 17:00, in the Art Galleries of the Palace of Culture in Târgu Mureș, with the participation of the "Tiberius" String Quartet of the Târgu Mureș State Philharmonic.
The exhibition created by the Transylvanian Art Centre, founded in 2012, presents a selection of works by those artists from the period 1920-1990, who played a leading role in the artistic life of the two most important Transylvanian centers, Cluj-Napoca and Târgu Mureș. The exhibition primarily evokes school founders’ figures, which is why it includes, among others, works by teachers from the Institute of Fine Arts in Cluj, founded in 1948, and by teacher-artists of the Art High School in Târgu Mureș, founded in 1949. These are joined by other outstanding representatives of the 20th century art scene in Cluj, such as Ferenc Ács, Antal Andor Fülöp, Sándor Szolnay, Béla Gy. Szabó, Sándor Mohy, Albert Nagy, Ilona T. Szűcs, Jutta Pallos Sch., as well as by artists from Târgu Mureș. The exhibition dominated mostly by paintings also includes a number of valuable graphic works (mostly by representatives of the School of Graphic Arts in Cluj) and some sculptures, creating thus a varied and exciting overall picture.
Beáta Bordás, coordinator of the Transylvanian Art Centre, István Székely, executive vice-president of the DAHR, Zoltán Soós, mayor of Târgu Mureș, and Koppány-Bulcsú Ötvös, director of the Mureș County Museum will address the public at the opening.
The exhibition will be open to the public until September 4th 2022, from Tuesday to Friday from 09.00 to 17.30 (the ticket office closes at 17.00) and on Saturday and Sunday from 09.00 to 15.30 (the ticket office closes at 15.00). Closed on Mondays.
Established in 2012, the Transylvanian Art Centre (EMűK), based in Sfântu Gheorghe, aims to map and present the history of Hungarian fine art in Romania since the first decades of the 20th century. The two collections in its charge are developed in the same direction. The collection of the Transylvanian Art Centre Association, built up through generous donations, includes more than 390 works of art, and, in addition to works by various Transylvanian artists, also owns works from abroad, created on the occasion of the Szeklerland Graphic Art Biennial. Thanks to the acquisition program of the last 5 years, the collection of 560 works of art of the Sapientia Foundation has been enriched with significant paintings of illustrious artists, including painters belonging to the Baia Mare colony as well as artists from the regions of Banat, Oradea and Szeklerland.
Selecting from these collections, the exhibition organized by the Transylvanian Art Centre brings together the most important artists of Hungarian art in Romania between 1920 and 1990, who occupied a leading place in the artistic life of the two most important centers of Inner Transylvania. The exhibition is primarily dedicated to the artists who founded schools, therefore works by the teachers of the Institute of Fine Arts in Cluj founded in 1948: Gábor Miklóssy, László Feszt, László Tóth, Artúr Vetró, as well as by the teacher-artists of the High School of Fine Arts in Târgu Mureș (Márton Izsák, Gábor Piskolti, Pál Nagy, András Bordy), founded in 1949 will be on display. These are joined by other outstanding representatives of the 20th century art scene in Cluj, such as Ferenc Ács, Antal Andor Fülöp, Sándor Szolnay, Béla Gy. Szabó, Sándor Mohy, Albert Nagy, Ilona T. Szűcs, Jutta Pallos Sch., as well as works by artists from Targu Mures, including Imre Balázs, Ferenc Sükösd, László Albert. In the exhibition dominated by paintings, we have also included a number of valuable graphic works (mostly by representatives of the School of Graphic Arts in Cluj, such as Gusztáv Cseh, Ferenc Deák, István Árkossy, Margit Soó Zöld, Mária Kopacz) and some sculptures, the end result being a varied and exciting overall picture.
